A History in Retail
The Kernan family have been involved in retailing since the 1920’s. Now in third generation ownership, under the stewardship of Anthony Kernan who joined the business in 1990, Kernan’s have 12 locations throughout Co. Donegal & Co. Mayo. Our first store was opened in Newtowncunningham and the company has continued to grow from there expanding throughout Donegal employing over 180 people and serving our communities with passion.
We pride ourselves on proving excellent customer service, convenience & having value for our customers throughout our stores.

Their hard work and dedication has resulted in numerous of awards and highest recognition from our partners at BWG and the Q Mark for Hygiene and Food Safety as managed by EIQA.
Community At The Heart
Kernans actively supports local community groups, charities and clubs, for example the main sponsor of Ballyshannon nOg GAA, The Donegal Derry Vipers Irish American Football Team & The Donegal Half Marathon under the banner ‘Kernans Supporting the Local Community’. We also sponsor the Finn Harps Academy & The Donegal Ladies Football Championship.
We are a Major Local Employer
Kernan’s is also a major local employer and we currently employee over 180 people in the region. Our staff are valuable hard working members that are passionate retailers and have the ability to really listen to customers which is crucial for providing great service for a number of reasons.
